Wife to Ricky; mother to Summer, Tiffany, and Skylar; daughter to Margaret and Donavan; sister to Donnette, Larry, Linda, Dwight, and Brian; Sherri Adams was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34. Because of her strong will to live she endured a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, reconstruction, and drug therapy; she even had her ovaries removed as a precaution. Her new focus was survival.
As a dedicated nurse at the Limestone Health Facility, she loved her job, coworkers, and patients. Her infectious laugh could be heard all through the halls. Sherri always managed to be the life of the party with her jokes and pranks. She believed laughter was the best medicine. It never occurred to her that she might not get to grow old with the love of her life and see her beloved girls grow up.
Last summer Sherri became very ill with what later was determined as congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy. Her heart had been weakened by the chemotherapy and an infection took grip that was stronger than she was. She succumbed on August 27, 2011 and lost the fight of her young life. Her laughter quieted and her passion for helping others in their fight with breast cancer stilled.
Join us as we take up the fight in her memory and make sure every woman in this community has the opportunity for early detection. On November 3, 2012 we will launch the 1st Annual Sherri Adams Pink Ribbon Run to benefit the Pink Elephant Mammogram Scholarship Fund at Athens-Limestone Hospital. With the money raised women who are uninsured, under-insured, or otherwise cannot afford their mammograms will be able to have this life-saving test free of charge. Sherri's love of helping others and her passion for all that the pink ribbon stands for will live on.
