Joni L Mihura, PhD, ABAP, Ali Khadivi, PhD, ABAP,
James H. Kleiger, PsyD, ABPP, ABAP
This webinar provides a detailed review of the multimethod assessment of psychotic symptoms. Through presentations and case examples, Drs. Mihura, Khadivi, and Kleiger demonstrate the use of different assessment methods in targeting specific psychotic phenomena such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and negative symptoms. Drs. Khadivi and Kleiger have written and presented extensively on this topic. Since demonstrating the robust nature of Rorschach scores for assessing psychotic symptoms with meta-analytic studies, Dr. Mihura continues to study and write about the assessment of psychosis and is working on an abbreviated R-PAS method, Thought and Perception Assessment System (TPAS), designed specifically to assess psychosis. Each presenter will focus on a different aspect of understanding and assessing psychosis. For example, Dr. Kleiger will provide a conceptualization of psychosis to frame the webinar. Dr. Khadivi will instruct attendees on the clinical interview in assessing psychosis. Dr. Mihura will describe the assessment of psychosis with R-PAS, with a special focus on understanding how the Cognitive Codes target disorganized thinking by comparing to The Scale for the Assessment of Thought, Language, and Communication (TLC). Presenters will describe the nature of cognitive impairment in psychosis, including a comparison of bipolar versus schizophrenia. The presenters will also explain how self-report questionnaires like the PAI and MMPIs fit within the assessment battery. Attendees are not required to have expertise in assessing psychosis nor R-PAS.
