Art Deco Society of Washington Event -- Boom: The 1950s in Montgomery County

Join us on a talk and tour of BOOM: The 1950s in Montgomery County led by Montgomery History Curator Elizabeth Lay. From the exhibit description:

“Explore the days of pink flamingos, “duck and cover” drills, juke boxes, and more with our new exhibit…! [It] guarantees an explosion of memories and stories from this pivotal decade in the county’s history.

BOOM will examine Montgomery County as the archetypal American suburb through an interactive exhibit, dynamic speaker series, and some really ‘hip’ events. Delve into this time of Hot Shoppes and “The Milt Grant Show,” as well as school desegregation and suburban sprawl.

Among the hundreds of objects on display will be an RCA television from 1956, fashions such as a women’s bathing suit and a Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School letter sweater, toys including Robby the Robot, newfangled household items like a transistor radio, and even an aluminum Christmas tree!

Connect with this explosive period in our county’s history with these not-to-be-missed experiences!”
