2012 NYS Early Learning Trainers' Institute

Part of the NYSAEYC Pre-Conference Day, the NYS Early Learning Trainers' Institute will introduce and familiarize those responsible for professional preparation and professional development with the New York Workforce Knowledge and Competency Framework designed to promote children’s learning and development, as well as improve child outcomes. New York’s Workforce Knowledge and Competency Framework is comprised of two documents: the newly revised Core Body of Knowledge and the New York State Teaching Standards which detail the professional repertoire of fundamental skills Early Childhood Educators should have and demonstrate when caring for and teaching children from birth to age 5. The framework further encompasses New York’s Early Learning and Development Standards (Early Learning Guidelines, Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, and the Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core) and QSNY Program Standards.  Together, the CBK and New York State Teaching Standards, Early Learning and Development Standards, and QSNY program standards establish the set of expectations for practitioners and programs to support the growth and education of all children.

Trainer Institute Goals

  • Introduce participants to the New York Workforce Knowledge and Competency Framework.
  • Introduce New York Works for Children, the State's integrated professional development system.
  • Describe the role of the New York Workforce Knoweldge and Competency Framework in informing and supporting professional preparation, professional development and professional practice.
  • Provide opportunities for participants to share their expertise in instructional design and delivery of effective professional development.
  • Provide participants an opportunity to use and integrate the Framework (specfically the CBK and ELGs) in the development of a training outline.
