Collectible Wine as a Significant Asset: Valuing Rare Wine in Todays Market
Summary: Wine, which has increasingly become a serious commodity and part of a robust secondary market, is not a static asset. Rather, it has the capacity to appreciate to the point where the current value of certain wines far exceeds their original purchase prices. When presented with a wine collection, therefore, an attorney can face challenges when determining whether it constitutes an investment grade significant asset or is merely a very nice, but not especially valuable, collection of wines. This seminar will help an attorney better understand the nature of the wine market, the methods for assesing the value of wine, and some of the legal issues and concerns surrounding wine collections.
