Lutheran Day 2016 is an official part of Spring 2016 Academy Week at Gettysburg Seminary, and in that partnership we will examine the intersection of science, faith and public policy in Pennsylvania. Climate change, clean water, poverty, education, human trafficking and trauma -- all of which connect to our hunger work -- are among the issues on which advocates will be equipped to act.
Bring a partner (or two!) -- A special emphasis will be placed on strengthening our faith communities for advocacy, with workshops on how to have difficult conversations on "political" topics, faithful citizenship in a time of divisive rhetoric, listening/telling our stories, and engaging youth and young adults through service and advocacy in their communities. Return with resources for faith formation, including songs, prayers and lessons to replicate the learning in your congregation. Click here for workshop descriptions.
Plus -- Find ready projects that combine service, learning and advocay to make the Sept. 11 Churchwide Day of Service a day for "God's work. Our hands. Our voices!"
In the spirit of Academy Week, we are pleased to welcome the LTSG Bookstore, which will offer books by the day's speakers as well as other titles. Spring Academy on the Seminary campus will focus on Science and Christian Life: Conflict: Cooperation: Integration. This topic will be explored through speakers, discussions, Preaching Perspectives presentations and a Theological Education for Youth Institute. Anyone may register for any of these events. Keynote Speaker: Dr. Ann Milliken Pederson, teaches Christian theology at Augustana University, Sioux Falls, SD. Pederson is currently working with colleagues at both Augustana University and Gettysburg Seminary to integrate science into seminary education through a grant from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
