Northeast Kingdom Critical Skills Level One Institute or course (CNED-5750, sec. C, 3-cr) 

The Northeast Kingdom Critical Skills Level One Institute will be held July 22-26 at the The Teacher Center at Riverside in Lyndonville, Vermont. All educators are invited to attend this event, especially teachers from northern Vermont and New Hampshire. 

 
The Critical Skills Classroom is based on four key of theories: collaborative learning, experiential learning, problem-based learning and standards-driven learning.The Critical Skills Classroom Immersion is an intensive course to introduce participating educators to all the dimensions of the CSC. With the guidance and leadership of experienced, practicing k-12 teachers, participants experience the model as students, immersed in the philosophy and structures. 

Critical Skills Classroom builds skills in:

• developing the classroom as a collaborative, problem-solving community
• using the experiential learning cycle to support student learning
• setting and maintaining standards for quality work & work processes
• targeting 21st Century skills alongside the curriculum
• designing & facilitating rigorous, engaging problem-based lessons 
• using simple performance-based assessment tools
• planning and structuring student exhibitions of learning, and
• guiding student reflection and debriefing processes

The Critical Skills Institute will help teachers engage Common Core aligned  lessons that target speaking and listening skills, mathematical problems and higher order thinking skills.

This is a Continuing Education registration at Antioch University New England, earning professional development credits/hours. With the Continuing Education registration, you will be issued a Certificate of Participation as verification of earned professional develpment hours. It is your responsibility to maintain this record.

You have the option of taking this course for graduate level credit. The Graduate Credit choice gives you 3 graduate level transferable credits, with a transcript maintained by the AUNE Registrar's office. There is an additional registration fee of $450 for the graduate credit option. Please be aware that there will be additional online class time and documentation required for the graduate course.

The Individual registration fee is $700 per person. To qualify for the Group Rate of $650 per person, four or more people from the same organization must register together. The Member Rate of $625 is for employees/teachers of our host, Riverside School.

About the Instructor:

 Nelia Rath, Teacher and Director of Co-Curricular   Programs, The Riverside School. Nelia is a graduate of   AUNE with an M.Ed in Integrated Learning.  With a   background in outdoor and experiential education, it   has  always been her philosophy to incorporate life   skills and real world applications into her lessons.  She   believes that Critical Skills is the development of a classroom culture that happens over time as the teacher explores and finds ways to share the values of collaborative, experiential, problem-based, and standards-based learning in the classroom.
