“Trauma is a biological assault, where one’s body may not be able to reset itself." - Bessell van der Kolk, MD
Learn how the brain-body responds to trauma. Identify the physiological and psychological manifestations of trauma and how it changes the brain.
Understand that for clients who have been traumatized “talk therapy alone may be re-traumatizing.” Understand how optimal trauma recovery needs to incorporate the latest in the neuroscience of exercise and meditation, along with brain body centered counseling techniques.
Participants will learn the neurobiology of trauma, develop and/or strengthen their clinical skills addressing the importance of understanding not what is wrong with someone, but rather what have they been through. Optimal trauma recovery needs to incorporate body-oriented therapies and techniques. Clinical food for thought: What was once identified as alternative/complimentary methods and out-of-the-box are now "in" the box. Solely relying on talk therapy is now out-of-the-box. |
