Art Therapy

Finding Attunement with the Avoidant Client

 

3 Continuing Education Hours
LMSW/LCSW/LCAT

This three hour workshop will be an exploration of how art therapy assists in facilitating attunement in the therapeutic relationship with clients who have avoidant type attachment styles.

This workshop will present a review of attachment theory and how it affects interpersonal relationships, including the therapeutic relationship. There will be an experiential exercise, followed by a discussion of the usefulness of art making in inducing attunement in the therapeutic alliance. 

 

Who Should Attend:
 
Social Workers (LMSW/LCSW) and  Creative Arts Therapists (LCAT)

The following topics will be discussed:

Participants will be able to identify/assess the avoidant client and then incorporate the creative process, mindfulness, and neuroscience theories into the therapeutic alliance to facilitate the client’s self-awareness of their attachment style and attunement with the therapist.

The participant will be able to:
  • Increase knowledge and awareness of attachment issues
  • Increase knowledge of various art therapy interventions

Information and Registration

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: JEANNE M. FREED, ATR-BC, LCAT

Jeanne Freed has been working as the Creative Arts Therpaist for the Association for Mental Health and Wellness at the Pollack Center for the past eleven years, working with indivdiauls with chronic and severe mental illness. She created and developed an extensive creative arts program, encompassing art therapy groups, individual sessions, and open studio classes.

Jeanne developed an early focus on trauma treatment due to its prevalence in the history of the people she was meeting and working with at the Pollack Center. She is currently running a Trauma Informed Care Committee to develop TIC training for MHAW staff.
