Understanding Childhood Trauma:

A Case-Based Learning Approach

3 Continuing Education Hours

LMSW/LCSW/LMHC/LCAT/LMFT

The Association for Mental Health & Wellness is proud to partner with Long Island Jewish Medical Center Northwell Health to provide this workshop.

This workshop presented by two members of the Supporting Trauma Recovery for Youth with Developmental Disabilities (STRYDD) Project will focus on the needs of children and adolescents with developmental disabilities who have experienced trauma.

Participants will learn about the 12 Core Concepts for understanding childhood trauma developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) (www.nctsn.org).  Participants will then use a problem-based learning approach to analyze a case in order to better understand factors involved in children's responses to trauma, including the relevance of the core concepts.  They will also learn to identify factors that contribute to children’s resilience in the face of trauma. Participants will appreciate the complex, multi-faceted impact that trauma can have on children and their development, including on their presentation in educational settings.  Participants will be guided by  Drs. Peter D’Amico and Juliet Vogel, who are certified instructors of the NCTSN Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma.
