INTRODUCTION TO EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY

3.5 Continuing Education Hours
LMSW/LCSW/LMHC/LCAT/LMFT

This three hour workshop will introduce the participants to Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence based treatment for working with couples in distress that is highly adaptable to different contexts.  This course will provide an introductory overview of EFT.  The stages of EFT will be reviewed along with experiential opportunities to practice basic techniques. 

Who should attend? Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working with couples and/or families.    




The participant will be able to:
  1. Endorse an understanding of at least three principles and interventions in EFT.
  2. List the stages of treatment in EFT.
  3. Identifyopportunities for continued development and growth in this treatment modality.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS: 

Mayer Bellehsen, PhD.

Dr. Mayer Bellehsen is the Director of the Northwell Health: Feinberg Division of the Unified Behavioral Health Center for Military Veterans and their Families. This site is a first-of-its kind center that seeks to model a new approach for collaboration between the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and the private health sector when treating veterans and their families. The site recently joined the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) through which Dr. Bellehsen chairs a sub-committee that is focused on enhancing partnerships between NCTSN and the VHA. Dr. Bellehsen is also the Principal Investigator for a pilot, randomized controlled trial that is evaluating the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation as an adjunctive treatment for PTSD.

Dr. Bellehsen received his PhD in Clinical Psychology with a Health Emphasis from Yeshiva University: Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. During his studies, he specialized in the area of trauma and PTSD as it affects individuals and couples.

Aviva Lauren Rizel, MA, LMFT

Aviva Rizel, LMFT maintains a private practice in Cedarhurst, NY. She specializes in couples and is certified as an Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) as well as an EFT Supervisor. In addition to treating couples, Mrs. Rizel is passionate about spreading the model of EFT to mental health clinicians. She is a sought-after supervisor, teaching EFT to therapists in New York, Connecticut, Florida and Michigan, as well as to clinicians abroad in Israel.

Aviva assists at trainings in Manhattan alongside Dr. Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT, and at various other trainings at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in NYC, The Center for Hope and Renewal in Greenwich, CT and The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya, Israel. She is a contributor to the International Center for Excellence in EFT’s Quarterly Distribution. 

Aviva Rizel also has her own widely viewed YouTube show called “EFT Appetizers” with many entertaining and educational videos geared to teaching EFT.
