Issues in Children's Mental Health Series Conference
Creating healthy and healing environments in behavioral health services for children as well as adults requires a thorough understanding of trauma, the effects of early childhood exposure to toxic and chronic stress and, most importantly, how to build people build resilience in the face of adverse. This conference will outline the need, rationale and principles and practices of trauma and resilience informed care. This work represents a movement in the behavioral health field that is sorely needed and gaining greater attention nationally. Dr. Rodriguez will provide participants with a thorough understanding of trauma and resilience, including an overview of the latest research and interventions that have been developed to promote it. He will discuss the neurobiology of stress and resilience and conclude with practices and strategies that can promote healing and recovery from exposure to trauma and chronic stress. The content is appropriate for service providers from adult and child serving organizations, but will focus on understanding and treating childhood trauma.

About The Presenter
James Roriguez, Ph.D.
Dr. James Rodriguez is a Senior Research Scientist and the Director of Practice Innovation and Community Outreach at the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research. He has over twenty years of experience as a researcher, clinician and trainer in the areas of trauma and trauma informed care. He is licensed as a clinical social worker and psychologist in New York State and has a part-time private practice.
