Working with the Military and Military Families 

Participants will explore the nuances of the impact of serving in the military, especially those who have served during war time and the impact on the family. Intervention strategies will be explored.

Who Should Attend:                                                                                                                          Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.    

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain an understanding of how military service impacts those who serve.
  • Participants will be able to identify stressors related to reentry after military service. 
  • Participants will understand intervention strategies that can be implemented when working with those who served and their families.

About the Presenter: 

Dr. Joan Beder is a professor at Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work, where she has been teaching social work practice for many years and where she oversees the Certificate Program in Social Work Practice with the Military. She is the editor of Advances in Social Work Practice with the Military. Her areas of expertise include military social work, health care, and clinical practice. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences on a variety of topics related to the military, and is the author of several books.
