Research indicates the majority of individuals receiving mental health services have a history of trauma. Through interactive lecture, videos, and hands on activities, this workshop will highlight system trends, including ACE’s, social determinants, the intersection of clinician world view and individual interaction, and provide practical techniques to keep a trauma lens approach.

Who Should Attend

Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Peer Support Staff, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.    

Learning Objectives

 Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the biological, social, and psychological signs of trauma
  2. Understand the impact of childhood experiences on the overall health of adults
  3. Discuss best practice tools for trauma informed practice

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Elizabeth Breier

Liz Breier holds a Master of Arts in Health Advocacy from Sarah Lawrence College and is a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner from The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association. Liz has worked in the field of Behavioral Health in a variety of leadership and supervisory roles in the states of Florida, New Jersey, and New York. Since 2000 Liz has been actively involved in supporting individuals in creating and sustaining their personal vision of recovery as well as helping to create and shape a service system that is person centered, recovery focused and in line with the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation. Additionally, Liz uses her personal lived experience as a part of her advocacy and work around individual self-determination and healing from trauma. Using her expertise and knowledge, Liz regularly presents at conferences and workshops on the promotion of a recovery- oriented system as well as trains the social service workforce of NYC and Long Island on this best practice.

Natalie Lleras, LCSW

Natalie Lleras, LCSW, maintains more than ten years of experience in the field of mental health  working directly with those living with significant mental health challenges of varying ages. She has a history of training development, clinical practice and leadership in diverse areas including that of special education, PROS, and International Universities. Natalie spent three years in Shanghai, China working with expatriate families regarding cultural transitions while also authoring articles related to mental health and living abroad. Most recently, Natalie was the Clinical Director of Rockaway PROS for Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens. She also recently presented at the NYAPRS Recovery and Rehabilitation Academy of 2018. She maintains strong roots in the psychiatric rehabilitation model as well as having provided supervision on trauma informed care.  She is a graduate of New York Universities Silver School of Social work and maintains Clinical licensure in the field of social work.

Clinton Green, LMSW

Clinton Green, LMSW, has over fifteen years of experience working with adults who experience severe mental health challenges and trauma. He has working in various recovery-oriented settings in New York including a certified Clubhouse and PROS.  In his current role as a Senior Training and Implementation Specialist at The Coalition for Behavioral Health, he supports providers with sustaining best practices around psychiatric rehabilitation and trauma informed practices.
