The death of a loved one from COVID-19 is a very difficult type of loss. The inability to hold a funeral or any in-person social gathering, makes grieving very hard. The sudden and frightening nature of the loss and the fact that we cannot be at the side of a dying loved one can be very troubling. The seemingly randomness of who lives and dies can also be disturbing. These and other features of the pandemic can make it more difficult to adapt to the loss and stall adaptation to loss.

This webinar will discuss the unique challenges to adaptation posed by a COVID-19 death. Participants will learn how to think of adapting to loss as a process of HEALING milestones and to identify thoughts, feeling and behaviors that derails this process. Participants will also learn how to recognize prolonged grief disorder (i.e. complicated grief) and about risk factors that increase its likelihood.

Who Should Attend:

Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.

Learning Objectives:

-Use the HEALING milestones model to inform grief psychoeducation with a client

-Identify certain types of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that can derail adaptation to loss

-Recognize prolonged grief disorder (i.e. complicated grief)
