This training is designed to better familiarize clinicians with mental health issues in older adults. We will discuss best practices for engaging clients in managing symptoms of mental illness and review tools for evaluation and prevention of suicidality, such as the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and the Stanley-Brown Safety Plan. The training will address challenges for clinicians in working with suicidal clients, explore strategies for overcoming barriers to treatment for older adults with mental health concerns, and examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on older adults’ social and emotional functioning.
