PART I: What it was? What it is?

Delve into the development and history of the creation of “Developmental Stages” and “milestones” and explore the use of these in the modern day within the field (pre-COVID). Through a strengths-based lens, explore how this has impacted typically developing youth and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities.

How has the pandemic impact youth? More screen time, less physical activity, more contact with parents/family, and less structure have been some of the ways. Dive deeper into this and how it has impacted youth social development.

Explore how to support youth as they interact in different settings, including managing social anxiety, regulating emotion in a social setting, sustaining a conversation, and listening. The role of group therapy with youth will be discussed, including challenges and benefits. Explore resources for school personnel that incorporate changes in social development in the post-COVID classroom, integrate Academic Social Development in Instruction, and learn how to apply developmentally appropriate academic and behavioral interventions and teaching strategies in the classroom and school setting.
