18th Annual Housing Rights Summit

"A Time for Justice"

Thursday, April 20, 2017

The Housing Rights Center (HRC)is  proud to announce the 18th Annual Housing Rights Summit. "A Time for Justice" is the theme of this year's Summit and it will feature educational panels with expert speakers on the following topics:

Short Term Rentals and Rent Control                                                                                                    Studies show that Los Angeles renters are spending 47% of their income on housing. Communities throughout the state are beginning to push for stronger rent control ordinances to curb the trend of rent increases. This panel will examine both the process of establishing rent control and the effects of short term rentals on rental prices.

AFFH One Year Later and the Effects of the New Administration
This panel will provide an update on the federal government’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule, a legal mandate aimed to de-segregate America's poorest and historically underserved neighborhoods. The panel will also discuss the state of Fair Housing and other community groups as the new administration moves forward.

Criminalization of People with Disabilities
People with disabilties make up between a third to one half of all individuals killed by law enforcement and are vastly overrepresented in our nation's prison and jail systems. This panel will examine the criminalization of people with disabilties and discuss action items to improve interactions with law enforcement.

Summit Resource Fair
This year's Summit will also feature an on-site resource fair designed to connect conference guests with public interest law groups, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to learn more about the valuable  programs and services available in Los Angeles.
