All children experience grief. Many of the losses of children experience go unrecognized even by people who care and love them. Traumatic grief, the complicated grief that is also connected to trauma, is a more serious mental health issue in children. In this workshop participants will get foundational knowledge, practical skills and have authentic learning experiences that translate into helping children with traumatic grief heal using play therapy.
Objectives:
Differentiate between grief and traumatic grief in children
Discuss play therapy interventions with children experiencing traumatic grief
Describe how parents can utilize principles of play therapy to help support the grieving child

Certified Professor and Supervisor of Child Psychotherapy and Play therapy. Director of Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC, in central New York, where she conducts psychotherapy and supervises staff. Associate Professor at State University of NY at Oswego, where she teaches and develops comprehensive syllabi and coordinates the play therapy certificate and mental health counseling programs.
