About the presentation: To DAF or Not to DAF–Let’s Answer that Question will explore the benefits and restrictions of establishing a donor-advised fund.  The program will compare and contrast the various tax benefits of the donor-advised fund, private foundations, and charitable trusts.  The program will provide insights into the growing popularity of the donor-advised fund as an efficient tool for thoughtful donors.  Finally, the program will offer some insider tips for nonprofits to encourage gifts from donors with donor-advised funds.

Speaker: Donna Frederick, Vice President of Donor-Advised Funds – Stifel Trust Company

Bio: Donna joined Stifel Trust Co. in May of 2019 with the challenge of building a Stifel branded Charitable Gift Fund Program.  Stifel Charitable Inc. received its IRS determination of public charity status in October of 2019.  Developing policies, procedures, sourcing vendors, and a creating a strong marketing plan, Donna was able to roll out a pilot by November of 2019.  Now, growing rapidly the program is exceeded $50M in gifts by the end of 2020.

The St. Louis Community Foundation provided Donna with a wonderful experience in donor-advised philanthropy as a Giving Strategist. In this capacity, she educated financial, tax, and legal advisors about the value of including charitable giving part of their clients’ wealth plan.

Ms. Frederick’s operations and regulatory expertise was developed during her 23 years with Smith Moore, a St. Louis-based investment firm, where she served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, director, and equity partner.

In addition to her professional duties, Donna is active in industry and community affairs. She served on the board of the St. Louis Council of Charitable Gift Planners for eight years, serving as the organization’s president for two years and is honored to have been awarded the Founder’s Award in 2019. She is currently a board member of AgeSmart Community Resources, Ten by Three, and Immaculate Conception School as well as a founding member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Planned Giving Committee.
