AFMC Wargaming in the 21st Century – Informing Future Force Development and Design

We are very pleased to announce that Mr. Landon Bailey and Mr. Richard Hughes, AFMC/A5/8OW will be our speakers at the 18 November (Thursday) DPAAS meeting, 11:30-1:30 pm, 2800 Presidential Drive, Holiday Inn, Fairborn, Ohio. Landon and Richard will discuss “AFMC Wargaming in the 21st Century – Informing Future Force Development and Design.”

Abstract: The dynamic demands of the 21st Century environment, combined with the return of Great Power Competition, require agility of thought on the part of strategic planners vis-à-vis the development of future Air and Space Forces. Wargaming informs future force development and design, enabling strategic planners to develop the requisite capabilities necessary for worldwide American military power projection across the spectrum of competition and conflict.

Mr. Landon C. Bailey is the Wargaming Team Lead for Headquarters, Air Force Materiel Command. He directs, administers and coordinates all Command wargame initiatives and processes. Mr. Bailey serves as the wargaming technical expert to the Director, Strategic Plans, Programs, Requirements and Analyses and leads a total force team of eleven personnel. Mr. Bailey is personally responsible for the execution of AFMC’s Long Duration Logistics Wargame, Science and Technology Wargame and the Global Mobility/Combat Support Wargame.

Mr. Richard J. Hughes serves as the Chief of Wargaming and Deliberate Plans in the Headquarters, Air Force Materiel Command’s Directorate of Plans, Programs, Requirements, and Analyses. He leads a team of military and civilian professionals in the development of plans supporting the AFMC Commander’s role of providing campaign support capabilities to component Major Commands, and Combatant Commands alike, supporting the Air Force, Space Force, and Joint Force. Additionally, Mr. Hughes’ team is responsible for the incorporation of AFMC combat support capabilities into Title 10/USAF Wargames, and the planning, execution, and analysis of AFMC Wargames such as the Long Duration Logistics Wargame, and the Science and Technology Wargame.
