Many maltreated children are spiritually impacted by abuse and require a coordination of medical, mental health, and spiritual care. This presentation examines this research and explores creative reforms for bringing faith and child protection communities together to protect children and address their needs. During the presentation, students will gain an overview of research on the frequency with which children raise spiritual or religious questions during a forensic interview.
Participants will also gain an overview of research on the spiritual impact of child abuse and receive concrete guidance for building bridges between faith and child protection communities in the prevention of abuse and in addressing unmet needs of children who are abused. This training consists of a 90-min presentation and 30-min Q&A to allow interaction between the presenter and participants in real time.
Presenter: Victor Vieth, JD, MA
Audience Level: Intermediate: Appropriate for attendees who already have basic information on the topic and have experience in the field
