Agency for Healthcare Research Quality Safety Program for Long-Term Care: CAUTI Learning Session #1 

Please join us for the national Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Safety Program for Long-Term Care: CAUTI In-person Learning Session #1 featuring Dheeraj Mahajan, MD, CMD, CIC, medical director of two CMS-ranked “five star” nursing homes and president and CEO of CIMPAR, SC, an eight physician medical group practice.

AHRQ’s nationally recognized learning sessions provide the necessary information and toolkits to improve performance and quality in long-term care and across care settings. This program is designed to go beyond CAUTI, helping all long-term care facility staff increase their infection prevention skills and reduce improper use of antibiotics, while also helping facility teams improve their overall safety culture through improved teamwork and communication.

Meeting Objectives:
  • Meet national project leaders
  • Learn how to enhance resident safety by preventing infections
  • Learn about common infections in nursing homes
  • Define catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)                                                                
  • Become familiar with the five components of the "C.A.U.T.I." bundle

Dheeraj Mahajan, MD, CMD, CIC, is a dynamic leader making a difference by improving the quality of care to patients served in post-acute care settings. He also provides quality Improvement consulting to several hospitals and an accountable care organization. He is a past member of the board of Telligen, a regional quality review organization headquartered in Iowa.

Dr. Mahajan is an active member of the American Medical Directors Association, the Society of Hospital Medicine and Age Options and he is a board member of the Campaign for Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes. He is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at UIC and teaches in the residency program in internal medicine at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. Additionally, Dr. Mahajan provides consultation pertaining to the use of clinical integration and electronic medical information systems. 

Who is Invited to Participate: administrators, directors of nursing, assistant directors of nursing, staff development coordinators, MDS coordinators, nurses, quality assurance and infection control personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members who you wish to be a part of this national project.
