AAYLC College Scholarship Workshop 

The African American Youth Leadership Program (AAYLC) is pleased to present our first AAYLC College Scholarship Workshop on Wednesday, September 18th at Tesla Professional Development Center, 2560 International Circle, Colorado Springs, CO  80910, from 6:00pm - 8:30pm.  We will begin our program promptly at 6:00pm.  

We invite all high school students and parents to attend this special event.  This workshop will provide speakers representing a variety of scholarship organizations. We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker for the evening will be Ms. Tanika Mangum from the United Negro College Fund.  The United Negro College Fund represents 400 scholarships and internships.  Additional speakers include representatives from the Boettcher Foundation, Daniels Fund, Sachs Foundation, Colorado College, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Community College and more. 

During the program, we will provide insight on navigating the scholarship application process from a parent’s point of view.  In addition, we will share a student’s first-hand experience and provide tips on the scholarship interview process.  Scholarship resources through the Pikes Peak Library District will also be discussed.

Keynote Speaker - Tanika Mangum
Tanika Mangum is the Outreach Relationship Manager at United Negro College Fund (UNCF), where she develops initiatives and strategies to educate and inform students, families and school administrators of the nearly 400 programs offered by UNCF annually. Ms. Mangum travels the country to expand the reach of UNCF and help eligible students connect and apply to opportunities. She is affectionately known as the “Scholarship Advocate” and truly believes in the power of scholarships. As a first-generation college graduate, she earned a Bachelor degree from Eastern Connecticut State University, a Master's degree in Higher Education from Florida International University and an Executive Leadership for Change degree from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.  She is student loan debt free and did it all through scholarships! She has over 12 years of Leadership and Career development experience and has worked with underrepresented and underserved populations ranging from High School to University settings for over 10 years. She has been regionally and nationally recognized for top leadership qualities and impactful advancement initiatives to move students and families to action with a Can - Do attitude.
