Large Scale Vermicomposting: a Value-Added Farm Process

Join us as we explore Vermicomposting; a managed composting method utilizing earthworms to efficiently process organic waste material, thereby converting it into a 100% natural fertilizer and soil amendment for use in crop production. We will learn from Amy Freeman and Jesse Raudenbush as they guide us through the process of design, implementation, and caring for a vermicomposting system, ensuring a healthy worm environment.

Primary workshop component includes digging the vermicomposting system while we learn all about the system of composting with worms.

Our guides:
Amy Freeman, Organics Maven - Composting Specialist and Women-in-Ag Co-creator & Co-presenter
Jesse Raudenbush, Owner of Starr Valley Farms

Additional work days will follow and will be open to the public. If you're unavailable on Monday, June 27th you can still attend one of these.

Durable footwear is advised, in fact boots are recommended. Please bring a dish to share as we will have a potluck style lunch together.

A WIA Network Meeting will follow at the Extension Office in Flint at 5:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.
