AIChE Central Florida November Dinner Meeting

"Is Primary Cooling of Phosphate Granules Possible Without Caking in a Mass Flow, Indirect Heat Exchanger?"

Speaker: Kevin Harris

Solex Thermal Science technology has been cooling fertilizers for over 25 years.  If not designed properly, condensation on the plates may occur resulting in product caking and possibly production stoppage.  In phosphate cooling applications, Solex heat exchangers have been used as secondary coolers with excellent success.  Customers have avoided primary cooling due to fear of caking inside the cooler.  A pilot test was performed at the OCP Jorf Lasfar plant where Solex technology was successfully used as a primary cooler.  This presentation describes the equipment design and results of that test.

About the speaker:

Kevin Harris is a Senior Sales Manager at Solex Thermal Science.  He is responsible for the potash, fertilizer, sugar, and polymer markets within North America.  Previously, Kevin was the North American Director of Business Development and Sales at Hydrogenics Corporation, a manufacturer of electrolyzers and hydrogen fuel cells.  He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Waterloo, and obtained his Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario.
