Aquatic Invasive Species

Paddle & Pull Event

WHAT: Join Willamette Riverkeeper, Benton Soil & Water Conservation District, and Oregon Parks & Recreation Department to help hand pull aquatic invasive species, Ludwigia (water-primrose), Nymphoides peltata (yellow floating heart), Myriophyllum aquaticum (parrotfeather) and others on the Willamette River in the Corvallis reach and the East Channel. These particular species are listed under ODA's Noxious Weed Control Program and are rated due to the negative impacts they have on the native vegetation, fish & wildlife habitat, water quality and overall watershed health. This will be an on-water event, so some river experience recommended. Ten tandem canoes for volunteers will be provided by Willamette Riverkeeper.

If you are interested in learning identification tips, safe removal methods, how to report & dispose of invasive weeds, and have some fun on the river, then this is the perfect event for you!

WHEN: Saturday, July 30th from 9:00am - 3:30pm

WHERE: We will be meeting at the Crystal Lake Sports Field Boat Ramp in Corvallis, dropping off boats (staff guarded) and driving vehicles to Michaels Landing in Corvallis. From there we will shuttle folks back to the put in (Crystal Lake) and get on the water. See link and map below for location.

DETAILS: Dress for the weather and a day on the water, where you might also get muddy. Waterproof shoes preferable, because you will get them wet. If providing your own equipment please bring a PFD, canoe or kayak with paddles. Please also bring plenty of water, lunch, and sunscreen. Willamette Riverkeeper will have 10 tandem canoes to loan out for the day and each will include 2 PFD's & 2 paddles.

* If you'd like to borrow a canoe, be sure to secure one while completing your registration for the event.

* If you need help shuttling vehicles please sign up while completing registration and we will reach out via email for more details.

COVID: Willamette Riverkeeper will be following state and local guidelines. At this time, we are not requiring masks during the event, with the exception of the shuttle, however this is subject to change. So please bring a mask if you will need help shuttling vehicles. Participants are still welcome to wear a mask during the entire event if preferred. Social distancing is encouraged.

Minors are welcome to join this event with an attentive adult who can sign their participation waiver and be present at the event.
