WHAT: Join Willamette Riverkeeper, Salem Parks and the Navy for a trash removal event on the Willamette River! There are on water and on land volunteer opportunities. This on water cleanup is part of an event taking place at Riverfront Park in Salem from 9am-3pm in celebration of Navy Week. Most of the on water team will consist of of sailors, but we have some spots left to join us in our canoes.  WHERE: We will be meeting at Riverfront Park 200 Water St. NE, Salem OR 97301. We will launch from the dock of the Willamette Queen and return to the same location. We will paddle a short distance on the water to retireve trash in the river and along the river banks that is difficult to access via land.

WHEN: Wednesday, September 27th from 9:30am - 12:00pm. The event opens at 9:00am, so allow yourself enough time to sign in and use the restroom. We will gather for a group introduction and safety talk before we launch at 9:30.

DETAILS for on water participants: Advance registration is necessary. Willamette Riverkeeper will provide canoes, which seat 2-3 people, reserve a seat and be paired with a paddling partner or bring a friend with you! Reserved canoes also come with paddles and PFDs. Make sure to dress for the weather (and perhaps in a nautical theme), and pack water, a snack, work gloves, sunscreen. Wear shorts or pants that can be rolled up and close-toed shoes that you don't mind getting wet and muddy. We will provide trash bags, disposible gloves and trash pickers.

The on water portion of this event is best suited for those 18 +, or 14+ if accompanied by an adult. Prior paddling experience is heipful.
