Huge thanks to our partners:
WHAT: Join Willamette Riverkeeper and Salem Parks for a trash removal event on the Willamette River! Our group will paddle a short distance upstream from Wallace Marine Park to collect trash along the riverbanks.
WHERE: We will be meeting at Wallace Marine Park, located at 200 Glenn Creek Rd NW Salem, OR 97304. When you arrive, follow signs to the boat ramp, NOT the softball fields. Plan to meet at the first parking lot on your left that leads to the gravel bar and the old boat launch, you will see a Willamette Riverkeeper sign. We will be launching from and returning to this same site.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 8th from 9am - 12:30pm. Plan to be ready at 9am for a safety chat and to start getting on the water.
DETAILS: Advance registration is necessary. Bring your own boat, or borrow one of our canoes for this on water event. If you are bringing your own boat, don't forget your PFD! You should be comfortable paddling against and ferring across some mild current. Interested in borrowing a Willamette Riverkeeper canoe? Make sure to reserve ahead of time through this registration. All canoes seat 2 people you can bring your own paddling partner or be paired up with a paddling partner at the cleanup. Reserved canoes also come with 2 paddles and 2 PFDs. It is possible there will also be an on land cleanup option in the park as well. I will make these details available as soon as it is confirmed.
Make sure to dress for the weather, and pack water, a snack, work gloves, sunscreen, and close-toed shoes or rubber boots as we will be stepping into the water. Pack an extra layer of clothes in case you get wet. We will provide trash bags, disposible gloves and trash pickers. There is usually a porta potty available at Wallace Marine Park.
This event is best suited for those 18 +, or 14+ if accompanied by an adult. No prior paddling experience is necessary.
