Crows & Cocoa:
A walk and talk with
Willamette Riverkeeper
Join Willamette Riverkeeper Conservation Director, Bob Sallinger, to observe and learn about Portland/s spectacular evening crow event!

Every evening during the winter months, thousands of crows fly into downtown to roost for the night. It is truly a spectacular wildlife spectacle to see and hear! Bob brings more than 30-years experience working on bird conservation issues in Oregon and a particular affinity for crows.

We will meet on the south side of the West end of the Hawthorne Bridge at 4:15pm and stroll along Portland's Waterfront Park (about 5 blocks).
We will watch the crows as they fly-in over the Willamette River and settle in for the evening. We will then meet up with Avian Solutions which uses trained Harris Hawks to move the crows out of high conflict areas such as the Transit Mall---an innovative strategy endorsed by animal welfare and conservation organizations for alleviating conflicts while still allowing the crows to roost along the waterfront. We will have a chance to watch them fly their Harris Hawks through the City streets and learn about their work.
- Bring your own thermos with your favorite warm beverage. We will supply hot cocoa to sip on while we wait for the crows to present themselves!
- Dress for the weather and be prepared for walking in the wet grass.
- Anticipate staying for about an hour.
- Registration is limited to 30 folks, but we will announce more Crows and Cocoa walks this winter season!
