Dr. Joshua Sparrow

Child psychiatrist Joshua Sparrow, MD, DFAACAP, is director of the Brazelton Touchpoints Center in the Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he also holds an appointment in the Department of Psychiatry. He is principal investigator for the National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (Office of Head Start, Office of Child Care, ACF, HHS), and is part-time associate professor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Sparrow, co-author of nine books on children's development, and hundreds of articles on related topics for academic and general audiences, has lectured extensively nationally and internationally, and has been invited to collaborate with numerous Federal agencies and philanthropic foundations. For example, in 2010, he was appointed to the United States Department of Health and Human Services Secretary’s Head Start Research and Evaluation Committee, and in 2016, to speak at the White House Early STEM Education Summit.

At the Brazelton Touchpoints Center, his work has focused on cultural adaptations of family support programs, organizational professional development, cross-sector collaboration, and aligning systems of care with community strengths and priorities.

Author Beth Kobliner

Beth Kobliner has been reporting and writing about personal finance for decades, and is the author of two New York Times bestsellers: Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You’re Not) and Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in Your Twenties and Thirties, both published by Simon & Schuster in 2017. She has contributed to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning AmericaPBS NewsHour, CNN, and NPR. Her favorite gig was teaching Elmo the basics of saving, spending, and sharing on Sesame Street.

Kobliner started her career as a research associate for Sylvia Porter, whose widely syndicated newspaper column brought personal finance into the mainstream, and was then a staff writer at Money magazine. Kobliner was appointed by President Obama to serve on his Advisory Council on Financial Capability, and spearheaded the Council’s MoneyAsYouGrow.org, which has since been adopted by the federal government’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

In 2017, Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You’re Not) was acquired and is being translated by international publishers in eight countries: China, Vietnam, Russia, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Japan, and Taiwan.

Books by Dr. Joshua Sparrow and Beth Kobliner will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
