AWI Standards Use & Development

 Presenter:  Mike Coticchio

Mike Coticchio is Director of Project Management at Siteline Interior Carpentry Inc., in Chicago Illinois.

After high school, Mike attended 4 years at Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Apprentice Program where he was instructed by master journeymen from all over the world. This was the start of more than two decades of hands on experience in every department of production, followed by drafting, estimating and eventually project management.  With his knowledge and experiences of learning the trade and industry, Mike advanced into an operations roll overseeing over 80 employees before coming to Siteline as Director of Project Management.

Experience in residential, commercial, and marine.

Program Description:

AWS2017 - The AWI Standards USE and Development

Description: The objective of this course is to learn and to understand the measurable qualities and properties of custom woodwork grades while recognizing the importance of adequate specification to protect the integrity of the design vision.

A Visual Slide Show will illustrate the factors that affect the project. The program will reference the AWS Woodwork Quality Standards, Second Edition, 2014. A Comparative journey will be made through the NEW AWI ANSI Finish Carpentry and Installation Standard to illustrate how the new standards are different from the Current AWS2.

Attendees earn 1 LU and 1 HSW

Learning Objectives:

1. To be able to identify reasons for using AWI Standards in architectural and design projects.

2. Learn the history and status of the current standards.

3. Recognize differences in Standards values and attributes.

4. Understand how to harmonize the standards with quality certification inspections.

5. Know what key elements belong in specifications when citing woodwork standards
