Discovering Our Community - The Trauma of Addiction for Women and Children

Over the past eight years, more than 2,700 area residents have died from heroin or opioid-related overdoses.

The region’s insatiable appetite for heroin has been well documented in the past decade. This epidemic robs women of their lives and can leave them jobless, homeless, and sometimes incarcerated.

Less frequently discussed are the thousands of children of drug addicted mothers placed in foster care or being raised by grandparents and other relatives. Some of these children are born dependent on heroin. Addiction takes a toll on the entire family.

Join us as the Spirit of St. Louis Women's Fund Education Committee presents an opportunity to find out what is being done in our region to help stop the pain.

Speakers include Dr. Melissa Tepe, medical director of Affinia Health Care, Dr. Sharon West, director of mental health services at Affinia Health Care, and Vincent Hillyer, president & chief executive officer of Great Circle.

Agencies providing community support to help women and their families move forward to a stable and rewarding life will be highlighted.

Appetizers and beverages will be provided by The Art of Entertaining.

The cost is $10 per person. Guests are welcome!

Parking is available in the lot above the Jones Building on Great Circle campus. Entrances to campus are off of both Gore Avenue or Rock Hill. (See map below)
