On September 22, 2017, the New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research (NJABR) is pleased to offer its 24th Annual IACUC Conference - the region's premier training conference for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee members, lab animal veterinarians, animal welfare compliance specialists and lab animal research team members.

This year's conference will focus on opportunities to improve laboratory animal welfare, while reducing regulatory burdens, cutting red tape and creating efficiencies within institutions.

IACUC 24 will open with a keynote presentation from Jim Welch, Executive Director of the Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation about the importance of safe work practices, biosecurity, and collaboration among organizations and institutions seeking to advance scientific discovery.  The morning session will also feature presentations and a moderated panel discussion with regulatory experts in the field, including William S. Stokes, ACLAM, DACAW, BCES, FATS, Assistant Director, Animal Welfare Operations, USDA, APHIS; Patricia Brown, VMD, MS, Director, NIH, OLAW.  Highlighting the morning plenary session will be a presentation on institutional animal welfare compliance led by NJABR member institution representatives.

The conference will also offer a selection of afternoon workshops led by morning session speakers and other leading professionals in the laboratory animal welfare field.  Among this year's workshops are sessions addressing animal welfare compliance monitoring, common animal care and use committee scenarios, a legal update, statistics and study design, as well as workshops designed to help improve reproducibility and translation.  An "ask the experts" and IACUC 24 review session will again close the event.
