Big Data has become a promising driver of decision making for governments, businesses, education, healthcare and virtually all aspects of society on issues as varied as management of cities, global climate change, and managing epidemics. We are honored to be joined by Institute for Scientific Interchange for this discourse. Dr. Mario Rasetti will discuss the approaches under development at ISI, and Mr. Massimo LaPucci will address the venture philanthropic approach to funding these important streams of research. Dr. Killeen will discuss SUNY’s new Networks of Excellence approach. Our goal is a rich audience discussion of these important issues:

Meet our distinguished speakers:
Dr. Mario Rasetti, Director - Institute for Scientific Interchange (I.S.I.)
Dr. Mario Rasetti, Director - is founder and president of the Institute for Scientific Interchange (I.S.I.), one of the world's most highly regarded think tanks and a global leader in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. He is also Director of Graduate Studies at Politecnico di Torino. A world famous mathematician and data scientist, Mario Rasetti has made major contributions in the fields of condensed matter, statistical mechanics, non-linear dynamical systems, quantum computation, and quantum information/data science. He spent ten years at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University where he remains a senior member. He has served as an Evaluator for the U.S. National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Defense, NATO, INFN, and as a member of the Consulting Committee for the Commission of the European Community.
Dr. Rasetti has published nearly 300 papers on advanced scientific theories and is the author of four books on data science and predictive analytics.
Massimo Lapucci, Secretary General - CRT Foundation
Massimo Lapucci - is Secretary General of CRT Foundation--a non-profit private foundation of banking origin with an endowment of about 2.5 billion euro--active in three different fields: art and culture, research and education, welfare and environment. He is also Secretary General of Development and Growth Foundation, a private foundation focused primarily on venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship projects.
Mr. LaPucci is also Managing Director at OGR company, currently the major project in Italy for venture philanthropy, with the mission of converting a former large industrial area placed in the city center of Turin into an innovative and experimental center for contemporary culture.
Mr. LaPucci is also a member of the board of several major companies, including Atlantia, an infrastructure holding, and non-profit entities including the Egyptian Museum of Turin and the Foundation of Turin Museums. Previously he was Investment Director for Sintonia S.A. (Benneton Group), a holding company based in Luxembourg focused on infrastructure assets, including the Italian motorways company, airports and telecommunications. Mr. LaPucci has consolidated teaching experience at the university level, and in 2006 was honored by being made a World Fellow at Yale University.
Dr. Timothy Killeen, President & SUNY Vice Chancellor for Research- SUNY RF
Dr. Timothy Killeen is President of the Research Foundation for SUNY & SUNY's Vice Chancellor for Research. He is responsible for supervision of the largest, most comprehensive university-connected research foundation in the country. In his additional role as the SUNY Vice Chancellor for Research, Dr. Killeen is at the center of SUNY’s strategy for the growth of basic, translational, and clinical research. His interaction with campus presidents, provosts, vice presidents for research and economic development, deans, faculty, students and SUNY leadership drives the implementation of innovative programs, initiatives, resources, policies, infrastructure, investment, and business practices that support SUNY research. He appoints, oversees, and supports the performance of operations managers who are charged with the management and growth of research at each of the 29 state-operated campuses and collaboratively across the SUNY system, and reports jointly to the RF board of directors and to SUNY’s executive vice chancellor & provost.
Dr. Killeen, a US citizen, grew up in Wales and completed his undergraduate and graduate education at University College London, earning his Ph.D. in Atomic and Molecular Physics at the age of 23.
