Earn 5 CEU's as EMDR clinicians gather in Orlando, Florida to learn some of the latest information presented at the EMDR International Association's 2018 Fall Conference.
Agenda for the day:
Originally presented by Ronald J. Ricci and Cheryl A. Clayton at the EMDRIA International Convention in 2018, this training highlights what Dominique learned.
Sexual offenders have higher levels of adverse childhood experiences (ACE) than either general or other criminal populations. The Pathways Model of sex offender treatment highlights etiology of offenses. The Adaptive Information Processing Model inherent in EMDR therapy offers an efficient way to target these etiological pathways forged by trauma-induced, maladaptively stored cognitions and emotions. EMDR Therapy is uniquely suited to adapt to the different neurological and processing needs of our clients. In this presentation, we will discuss how to adapt the mechanics of EMDR to suit the needs of those with ASD, IDD, Processing Disorders, differences in learning styles, and people missing developmental milestones due to trauma within the AIP model.
Originally presented by Martin Teicher, M.D., Ph.D, at the EMDRIA International Convention in 2018, this training highlights what Cherilyn learned.
This plenary presents enlightening discoveries in recent neuroscience research. This research has found structural, functional, and connectivity changes in childhood brain development associated by early life stress. These changes present as varied symptom clusters, all divergent from the usual PTSD diagnosis, and all result in the client gathering multiple labeling diagnoses. Being able to understand how early life stress impacts brain development, particularly in sensitive periods of development, will assist clinicians in being able to meet clients treatment needs.
11:20-12:20 Processing Speed, Mentalizing, and Case Conceptualization with EMDR Therapy presented by Kaley Sinclair Jiawon, LMHC, LMFT.
Orginally presented by Dr. Robbie Adler -Tapia at the EMDRIA International Convention in 2018, this training highlights what Kaley learned.
Learning objectives:
1. Participants will learn adaptations to conceptualize and tailor the 8 phases to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Processing Disorders.
Kaley Sinclair Jiawon, LMHC, LMFT, is a Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDR Consultant-In-Training. She is the owner of Sinclair Counseling Services, a private practice in downtown Orlando where she utilizes a systemic and trauma-informed approach with kids, teens, adults, couples, and families. Her specialties include complex PTSD, dissociation, healing from sexual abuse, and addressing culturally-based traumas.
1:45-2:45 The New and Improved FLASH Technique presented by Anastasia Bipat, LMHC.
Orginally presented by Philip Manfield, Ph.D. and Lewis Engel, Ph.D. at the EMDRIA International Convention in 2018, this training highlights what Anastasia learned.
This presentation will cover updates made to the FLASH technique, which was developed by Dr. Philip Manfield in mid-2016. The technique is used during the preparation phase of EMDR to allow clients to reduce the disturbance associated with extremely painful memories. The technique has continued to evolve over time, and this presentation covers the most recent changes and enhancements made by Dr. Manfield based on his most recent research.
Learning objectives:
1. Particpants will understand the concept of the FLASH technique
2. Participants will learn the appropriate use of the FLASH technique, including incorporating into standard processing and implementation of the tool
3. Participants will practice and use the FLASH technique during practicum section
Anastasia Bipat is an EMDR Certified, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who currently works for Pasadena Villa Psychiatric Residential Treatment Centers. She received her Masters in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida and primarily works with the adult population of the severely and persistently mentally ill in Orlando FL.
2:45-3:45 EMDR Fidelity Rating Scales presented by Reg Morrow Robinson, Ed.S., LMFT, LMHC, NCC and Bill Brislin, LMHC and NCC.
Originally presented by Katy Murray, LICSW at the EMDRIA International Convention in 2018, this training highlights what Reg and Bill learned.
These tool evaluate adherence to EMDR therapy’s standard eight-phase treatment approach and three-pronged protocol. The fidelity call posted on the EMDR Research Foundation site was developed in 2007, it has recently been revised and expanded. While developed for research purposes it is also useful in EMDR consultation to assist clinicians in the development of their EMDR therapy skills.
Learning objectives:
Reg Morrow Robinson – Reg is co-owner of Connect EMDR Training and Consulting, an EMDR Institute and Trauma Recovery/HAP trainer, and an R-TEP/G-TEP trainer. She has a private practice in Windermere, FL and has been practicing for over 30 years.
Bill Brislin – A therapist in the Orlando area for over 30 years, Bill is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Through Trauma Recovery/HAP, he is an EMDR basic training and R-TEP/G-TEP trainer. He offers advanced trainings through Connect EMDR Training and Consulting.
