Exploring the 1704 Raid

Historic Deerfield welcomes all interested in learning more about the stories of 1704 to participate in a one-day symposium on March 3, 2012, that will focus on what we know about the Deerfield Raid. Our program will bring together scholars with museum staff and interested public to investigate the context of the Raid itself and its outcomes.  Click here to view the agenda.

Indian House EngravingSpeakers will include:  John Demos, Samuel Knight Professor of History Emeritus, Yale University; William M. Fowler, Jr., Northeastern University, Distinguished Professor of History; Alice Nash, Associate Professor at University of Massachusetts, Amherst; R. Scott Stephenson, Director of Collections and Interpretation, American Revolution Center; Kevin Sweeney, Professor of History at Amherst College; and Philip Zea, President of Historic Deerfield.

Participants will also receive a copy of a new “1704 Raid Walking Tour,” and may view the new exhibition Furnishing the Frontier: The Material World of the Connecticut River Valley, 1680-1720.  Pre-registration is required.  The registration fee is $75, or $65 for members and school teachers.  

School teachers can earn PDPs for attending this event.  Please indicate the name of your school on the registration form under "Business Information."
