CLERKS' TRAINING & RECORDS REVIEW 2013

Congregations and clerks of session in our presbytery are living into the newly revised  Book of Order, 2011-2013 and how to use its flexibility to do our work as clerks.  We will continue this learning, and the options it opens up in keeping rolls, writing minutes, and doing the work of clerks that supports our connections with one another.  This is also a time, not just for training and review of session books, but also for sharing questions, answers, and stories with other clerks.  We learn from one another.

It is important for our host congregations that they know how many people to expect as they prepare refreshments and work space for us.  REGISTER NOW as an act of consideration for our hosts.  If you need to change your plans, just send an email to Gladys@ourpresbytery.org noting that change.

As clerk for your congregation, it is important that you are on the list for God Calls and for Assembly emailing.  If you do not regularly get those emails on behalf of your congregation, please say "Yes, I want to receive your newsletters"  during the registration process.   Using email expands our opportunities to share information and saves many mission and operations dollars that otherwise go to the post office.

If you cannot attend one of the Saturday sessions, you may schedule a time to meet with me at Geneva Center, or leave your records for review—but I encourage you to attend one of the gatherings to reap the benefits of sharing experiences with other clerks.

Updated forms to assist your preparation are on the presbytery website at http://www.ourpresbytery.org/resourceCS.htm (a page dedicated to information for Clerks of Session).  It saves much time if you prepare page numbers on the two forms provided, one for Session Minutes, and the other for Rolls and Registers.  If you have forms distributed last year-- they are fine.  Only the title has changed.  If you need information on other topics, let us know and we will do our best to provide.

  • Stated Clerk's Letter on Training and Records Review Sessions
  • Review of Rolls and Registers preparation form
  • Review of Session and Congregational Minutes preparation form
  • Session Response to Record Review Report form
  • 2013 Guidelines for Clerks of Session
  • SAMPLE Minutes Review Form—you are welcome to use it and provide feedback on which is better format

May God bless our work as we seek to live out Christ’s mission in this place!
