Heald Bank Regatta 

This race is held offshore in the Gulf of Mexico starting at the Galveston jetties. The non-mandatory Competitor’s Briefing will be held at 1800 CDT, June 23, 2023, at Lakewood Yacht Club.

Sailing Instructions (“SI’s”) will be available no later than 1800 CDT on

June 19, 2023 at https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/26512.

The scheduled time of the warning signal is 1000 on June 24, 2023.

The time limit for boats to finish is 16 hours after their starting signal.

VENUE: The racing area shall be within the Galveston jetties and in the Gulf of Mexico within 40 nautical miles of the eastern end of the Galveston jetties, Markers 5a or 6a.

COURSES: The racecourse will consist of 3 or more legs from the end of the Galveston jetties and will be of overall lengths of from approximately 30-40 nautical miles to approximately 80 nautical miles. The specific courses will be provided in the SI’s.

A Heald Bank Sailors Brunch will be held at LYC on Sunday, June 25 at 10:30. Brunch will be included in the cost of the regatta.

Awards will be presented on June 25, 2023 at 1100.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: For classes with less than four participants – first place. For classes with four to six participants – first and second place. For classes with more than six participants – first, second, and third places.

The team will meet at SCSA at 0900 on Friday 6/23 and depart to Galveston Yacht Basin at 1300. On Saturday, planned departure will be at 8:30, the start time for the Heald Bank Regatta is at 1000. We will arrive back to Seabrook Marina on Sunday 6/25.

 This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in improving their advance sailing skills. The race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
