FAC's Oktoberfest on Columbus Day weekend offers international folk dance and music
workshops by guest teachers, evening folk dance parties, and late-night after-parties, along
with cozy ambience, good food, and comfortable cabins on the picturesque northern shore
of Lake Morey amid the beauty of autumnal Vermont.
This year's Oktoberfest begins on Friday, October 11 at 4 pm with check-in and a buffet
supper, followed by a welcome dance party as people arrive throughout the evening. The
Saturday and Sunday daytime schedules will include dance workshops with
Gergana Panova (from Sofia, Bulgaria); Bal Folk and contra dancing, and singing workshops
by Jeremy Carter-Gordon (from Concord, Massachusetts); and Culture Corners (lectures by
the leaders), plus yodel workshops, and a wine, cheese, and couple dance social on Sunday.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings will feature international folk dance parties with
fabulous music by the world-famous and well-renowned Pinewoods Band. The party
programs will include dances that we've just learned as well as old favorites. After 11 pm,
the fun will continue at after-parties with lots of tasty food, socializing, singing, and more
dancing. This year's Oktoberfest ends on Monday, October 14 at 1 pm, after dance and song
reviews and lunch.
Hulbert Outdoor Center is a scenic rural retreat, located in Vermont's Upper Connecticut
River Valley on the shores of Lake Morey. Over 500 acres of young forests, bluffs, and gently
rolling countryside set a beautiful stage for the long weekend. Facilities at Hulbert include
a rambling farmhouse with a large dining hall and wood-floored dance hall; a historic barn;
and other, smaller spaces for scheduled and spontaneous events.
