2013 Community Engagement Day

The Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement is hosting Community Engagement Day on Friday, April 12th in Alico Arena. This is the largest showcase of student service-learning projects presented on campus annually. Come share YOUR amazing project where you may be recognized for your exemplary service to your community*.

Poster and Presentation Guidelines

All posters (and display boards) must include:

  • Poster Title
  • Name of Community Partner
  • Name of Professor (if course based)
  • Objective of project
  • Explanation of how your project meets actual community needs
  • Description of project (actions taken)
  • Results/Impact of project
  • Connection to course work, career, or guiding principles and mission of FGCU
  • Long-term goals 

Presentations must include:

  • Prepared oral narrative
  • Responses to viewer questions

Outstanding presentations will also include visual aids (pictures, flyers, video, artifacts or websites) as well as an interactive component that actively engages your audience.

Creativity is encouraged. Use your entire table space in order to draw in viewers.  

Alico Arena Do's and Don'ts:

The following items are not permitted inside of, or near FGCU Athletic Facilities: smoke machines, pyrotechnics, weapons, candles, glitter, spray glitter, stickers, silly string, helium balloons, latex material, animals (except registered service animals), paint, confetti, large handbags, backpacks, briefcases, shopping bags, coolers, outside food or beverage, alcohol, laser pointers, air horns, signs, hanging signs… All other facility policies and procedures; as well as local, state, and federal laws apply. ALL exceptions must be approved in writing by the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities and Operations.

Event Schedule

  • 9:00 am - Students arrive and set-up displays
  • 10:00 am - Keynote speaker, Scott Stimpson**
  • 10:45 am - Project presentation and judging
  • 1:00 pm - Award Ceremony

**Scott Stimpson is a Florida Gulf Coast University Alumni. He was an active and founding member of the FGCU Food Foresters and helped plan and execute FGCU's student run Food Forest. After graduation in Fall 2011, Scott held an AmeriCorps Vista position at Estero Bay Preserve State Park from January 2012 - November 2012. In his time at the preserve, Scott was able to create programs and recruit more than 20 times number of volunteers the preserve had seen in the past. Now, Scott is currently working for the United States Department of Agriculture as a Plant Protection Quarantine Technician for Lee, Collier, and Hendry Counties.
