The WV Food and Farm Coalition Meat Working Group & partners VC2 and Natural Capital Investment Fund have developed a series of trainings for West Virginia’s niche meat businesses.
Join us for a site visit to an industry leader, Alleghany Meats, a cooperatively-owned full service, federally inspected meat processing facility located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Alleghany Meats puts a focus on humane handling as well as customized cutting and packaging. Our tour will cover the areas of livestock handling, floor design, cooler system and freezer management, processing room management as well as curing, smoking and RTE products.
Logistics
Alleghany Meats is located 6 miles north of the town of Monterey on Route 220 at: 6095 Potomac River Road, Monterey, VA 24465.
A carpool from Lewisburg, WV will be organized, overnight lodging can be prearranged and the afternoon agenda will be finalized with the input of the participants.
