West Virginia Forest Farming Field Day

The West Virginia Forest Farming Field Day is an in-person event at the Yew Mountain Center in Hillsboro, West Virginia. Six Groups of 10 will spend the day rotating through seven field stations, each with a different forest farming topic. COVID safety protocols will be in place and participants will be required to follow them; facemasks will be worn. 

This event will happen rain or shine!

Cost per participant: $25 (covers the cost of all instruction and lunch)

**Scholarships available for students, veterans, and people who need financial assistance to attend this workshop.  If you are intrested in a scholarship, please send a scholarship request to info@wvforestfarming.org before registering.**

Forest Farming Topics will include:

Overview of the Yew Mountain Center (YMC) and the Appalachian Beginning Forest Farmer Coalition (ABFFC) with Will Lewis*, YMC and John Munsell, ABFFC
*Will Lewis is the Forest farming coordinator at the Yew Mountain center where he has been practicing forest farming since 2017. He organizes and plans all the forest farming activities that are done on the Yew’s 500 acre property. He has also been conducting site visits to help farmers throughout West Virginia and networking to help create a linked web of forest farmers throughout the state. He is also a beekeeper and has practiced holistic farming for 15 years.

Groups will have 35 minutes at each Field Station

COVID Safety Protocol Information
In an effort to try and make this in-person event as safe as possible for everyone, we have planned the workshop with safety measures and physical distancing in mind. The following safety protocols will be in place:

All participants, instructors and event staff will be required to wear a facemask at all times unless they are eating or drinking.

Participants will be put into 6 groups of 10 people each
Each group will have a Group Leader to help guide them throughout the day
Each group will have its own pop-up tent with: tables, chairs, water cooler, coffee and tea service, snack service, and boxed lunch service
Each group will have its own port-a-potty to use
Each group will be asked to keep to itself and not interact with the other groups
