Starting and Running a New Nonprofit 

Do you have an issue or topic that you are passionate about? Do you want to see change happen? Learn how to turn YOUR passion into a reality by starting a nonprofit organization. This workshop will guide you through the steps involved as well as demonstrate how to establish good board governance, good financial policies & controls, and raise funds.

Who should attend?

 Anyone thinking about starting a nonprofit or anyone in the process of starting a nonprofit. 

You will: 

  • Interpret what a nonprofit is and what it isn't.
  • Define the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a tax exempt organization.
  • Outline the steps to become a Texas nonprofit.
  • Describe IRS requirements to become a tax exempt organization.
  • Discuss how to establish good board governance, good financial policies & controls, and how to raise funds.

   

Presenter:  Deborah H. Drago

Deborah is the Executive Director of the Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center and a friend to many nonprofits.  In her capacity as Executive Director of the Center, she seeks to help promote nonprofit organizations’ missions through professional development opportunities.  Deborah has over 20 years of experience working with nonprofit agencies on collaborative and special projects for schools and civic organizations in Southeast Texas.  

She is highly involved in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Beaumont, Leadership Southeast Texas Advisory Council, and South East Texas Criminal Justice Advisory Council. She serves (and has served) on multiple nonprofit and parent association boards as an officer and committee chairperson and is the founder of two school parent groups.
