Collaboration and communication between government entities and the private sector is essential to our success combating cyber threats. This event brings together public and private entities to discuss policy and best practice in cybersecurity to help businesses be prepared for whatever the future brings.

  • Kirk Lonbom, Chief Information Officer, State of Illinois

The modern U.S. state is a central hub of information, with cast amounts of data acquired and required by multiple agencies and departments in order to succeed at their mission. Modernizing those various networks to ensure capability while protecting vast amounts of data is a challenge. Lonbom will present information on what the State of Illinois is doing to modernize and protect its vast information in these increasingly challenging times.

  • Michael Papay, Vice President and Chief Information Security Office, Northrop Grumman

Papay will provide an aerospace and defense industry perspective on setting up an internal information security program as well as tailoring cyber solutions for customers. Seeking to answer the question, "what action can I take right now to get ahead of the cyber threat?" Papay will also cover appropriate business models to consider as enterprises securely move toward cloud and mobile solutions.

Understanding these different roles and agencies is important for organizations to understand not only who to go to when something happens but who to go to understand how to be proactive.

Legislation and regulations provide the framework for any business to operate. However, especially when it comes to  technology, government is often moving slower than private businesses. Along with a discussion of legislation on the state level that impacts businesses, Tyler will provide some insight as to what type of legislation businesses could be facing in the future as it relates to technology.

As the digital ecosystem of an organization grows, so do the associated cyber risks. Businesses cannot assume the vendors have a third-party relationship with have top-notch security in place. Hackers often look for the path of least resistance and shoring up supply chain vulnerabilities will help prevent easy network access. Durkee will discuss how companies can begin by assessing the resources third parties have in place and ensure they have strategies and tools to prevent a breach and to maintain business continuity.
