Bill Mack and Gary Welton in Key West

9

A collection of artwork by two world-renowned artists, Bill Mack and Gary Welton, will be on display and available for acquisition at Key West Gallery February 28- March 1, 2020.

Bill Mack is the world’s pre-eminent relief sculptor. Combining low and high relief, incised lines, and elements in the full-round in sculpture works that are light enough to be hung on a wall, Mack directly involves the viewer in a 3-dimensional experience, both textural and tactile, that is often startling real. Mack is a master craftsman. Each relief derives from painstaking studies of the foreshortened figure – a classic skill that is rare in today’s contemporary scene. Bill Mack’s work is in the private collections of notable individuals such as Elton John, Carlos Slim, Robert De Niro, Tony Curtis, Jimmy Carter and HRH Prince of Monaco to name a few.

Bill Mack is also a highly skilled painter who creates original works in oil, acrylic, graphite and much more. There are few artists in history who have the ability to master both painting and sculpting at the level Bill Mack has achieved.  Through his extensive artistic and business contacts around the world, Mack has also become an avid collector of art, historical documents, and Hollywood memorabilia, which led him to acquire the entire original Hollywood Sign in 2007.  He is now painting the legends of Hollywood from the Golden Era on panels from the original Hollywood Sign, which are now owned by collectors around the globe. This is the first time an artist has used a National Historic Landmark as their canvas and the material is finite, when it is gone, it is gone. It has been so well received, Mack recently officially announced that the project is nearing complete sell out. It is a unique window of opportunity for those who are lucky enough to learn about the project and understand its significance.  New paintings on the Hollywood Sign are available for acquisition during the show.

The second artist in the exhibition is Gary Welton. Welton works from the moving dancer and model, creating paintings on paper and canvas.  He paints quickly to capture the energy of the ever-elusive moment and movement of the dancer through time and space. While many of his paintings are of dancers, Welton has just completed and delivered 65 original commission paintings focused on football players, which will be a permanent fixture in the new Minnesota Viking’s Stadium. Out of the artists selected, Welton was asked to create the most new paintings for the new state-of-the-art facility, the largest of which is 35 feet in length. These new paintings will be seen by millions of people annually attending Vikings games, concerts and other events in the new billion-dollar space and will increase his exposure as an artist tremendously.

Gary Welton made the paper he used in the Vikings commission paintings by hand and will be using the remaining pieces of hand made paper to create original commissioned football paintings for collectors. There were originally 20 pieces remaining and 2 commissions sold the first day the project was announced, leaving 18 pieces available for original commissions. Clients can pick a favorite team and rival then Welton will paint a custom piece.
