Temple Book Club - August 2022

Getting to Know Hekate

The intention of the book club is to encourage conversations among people in the Temple community and beyond using an online format that is welcoming to everyone. Each month we will feature a book for conversation and discussion, following wherever our discussion may lead us. Read what you can of the book and come with insights, thoughts, and opinions to share your experiences focusing on the witchcraft perspective from the given subject. Book suggestions as well as questions can be sent to Jason at jason@templeofwitchcraft.org

Join us on Tuesday August 2 from 7-8:30PM meeting via Zoom for our book club meeting completing Hekate: Goddess of Witches by Courtney Weber. For our August Book Club we will be talking about the first 5 chapters, to page 104, and will pick up from chapter 6 to the end of the book for October. This book was specifically chosen as the Feast of Hekate is on August 13. The book is available direct from the Temple of Witchcraft online store.

A book description from the Temple Store:

Courtney Weber (author of Brigid and The Morrigan) offers an informed, accessible journey through the lore and history of Hekate, the ancient goddess of crossroads, ghosts, and witchcraft, and reflects on Hekate’s relevance today. Tools and techniques for incorporating this goddess into your personal journey round out the book.

Similar to her other works, Weber strikes a balance between the scholarly and the spiritual. Her exploration of Hekate combines solid research with practical, modern applications. The spiritual content is accessible to anyone with an interest in witchcraft, regardless of their faith or background.

Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of Hekate, exploring original mythology, historical context, and contemporary connotations, concluding with spells and personal rituals. The final chapter is a grimoire full of rituals, offerings, and other practices designed to help readers align themselves with this extraordinary goddess. The book also explores magickal ethics, what it means to be a witch in the twenty-first century, and best practices for successful witchcraft.

The fair energy exchange for the book club is $5

Our September 13 book club will feature the 21 Days of Reiki by Temple founder Adam Sartwell in honor of the healer, all are welcome and a Reiki attunement is NOT required to read the book or participate in the discussion.
