Foundations of Fund Raising: A Crash Course in the Basics of Raising Money     
Tuesday, November 12th 3:00-5:00pm

Welcome to the world of fund development! In this workshop, we will offer an overview of this aspect of a non-profit’s work in our community. Participants will learn basic terms, types of fund development, why relationships are the heart and soul of raising money successfully and why “PLAN” is about to become your favorite four-letter word! 

Spotlight on Annual Giving  
Tuesday, December 3rd, 1:00pm-3:00pm

The annual fund serves to establish a base of individual donors that can involve, inform, and create connections with others to your organization. It secures a steady flow of income for programs and services, and provides a launching point for further fundraising efforts beyond this baseline. But what do successful annual fund campaigns look like and consist of? Join us for an introduction to the key components of successful annual fund campaigns.

Participants will walk away with a solidified understanding of:

  • Why the annual fund is considered the front line and foundation of all fundraising
  • How to prepare for your upcoming year’s annual fund from evaluating the successes from your previous year’s campaign, as well as a series of known benchmarks
  • The power of “Thank You” (and why the current conversation about Donor Retention hinges on this!)
  • How to engage and involve board members and other volunteers in the annual fund process.                        

Grant Writing Nuts and Bolts 
Monday, December 9th, 1:00pm-3:00pm

Preparing and submitting a successful grant proposal can be an intimidating process for both new and also experienced grant writers. While there is no one magic formula to use when writing grants, there are many best practices to lean on that will heighten your chances for success. Join Independent Grant Writer and CNE consultant member, Laurie Rogers, to learn practical and proven techniques to strengthen your grant writing power and secure funds for your organization.

Participants will walk away with:

  • Steps to ensure your agency is grant-ready
  • Tips and resources for grant research
  • Helpful talking points to use with funders prior to proposal submission
  • Tools to use for building each component of the proposal
Featuring Laurie Jarrett Rogers 
Independent Fundraising Consultant

Since March 1995, Laurie has worked as an independent grant writer for non-profits in the Metro Richmond area. From that position, she has assisted in all aspects of fund raising such as starting or increasing annual funds, formulating strategies for capital campaigns, developing case statements, assisting with board training and development, performing foundation and corporate research, writing grant proposals, creating development plans, assisting with budget development and teaching good stewardship of the relationships with funders. She began her fundraising career in Richmond as the Annual Fund Director at the Valentine Museum and then became the Director of Development and Director of the Capital Campaign, a $30 million effort to renovate and restore the Wickham House and create Valentine Riverside. She has been active in her church where she chaired a $3 million capital campaign, chaired the annual stewardship effort for two years, created and served as chair of the Stewardship Committee and served on the vestry as Junior and Senior Warden. She is currently on the vestry and serving as the Junior Warden at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. She is also a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia’s Stewardship Committee and helped develop a stewardship curriculum.
