Through Clouds to Solutions: Enhancing Logical Thinking

Do you need a better understanding of a complex problem? Do you need to generate innovative solutions?
Want to quickly recognize the difference between a real problem and its symptoms? Want to identify innovative solutions and discover potentially negative effects before they occur by understanding your assumptions?

This  two-day interactive workshop teaches you to challenge the way you address the problems and dilemmas you face in your business. You will learn to use the power of cause and effect to gain a better understanding of conflicts and dilemmas, to verbalize your intuition, to check the validity of your conclusions and to clearly communicate your ideas.

The registration fee of $800 includes lunch on both days.Register Now! RMI Members receive a 50% discount off the $800 seminar fee

Working with Conflicts and Dilemmas – Understanding and Handling Reasoning about Cause and Effect

Jelena Fedurko

the author of the books “Behind the Cloud: Enhancing Logical Thinking”,                   “Through Clouds to Solutions: Working with UDEs and UDE Clouds”,                            “Theory of Constraints Fundamentals”

This two-day interactive workshop will give you the ability to challenge the routine way of addressing and solving the problems and dilemmas you face every day in your business. You will learn the cause and effect reasoning that allows you to gain a better understanding of the conflicts and dilemmas, to verbalize your intuition, to check the validity of your conclusions and to clearly communicate your ideas.

We will work closely with two central tools of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) – the Cloud and the Negative Branch.

  • The Cloud is a structure and a process for thinking about a problem using cause and effect logic to surface and challenge assumptions to understand the source of the problem and to search for a solution.
  • The Negative Branch is a logical structure designed to identify the unintended consequences of a solution in advance.

Both tools are aimed at allowing you to be proficient in establishing, checking and challenging the reasoning that leads to conflicts, dilemmas, and negative outcomes and to find effective solutions.

The class is limited to 25 participants to allow for a high level of interaction. You will work with examples and cases to see the systematic process of addressing problems and dilemmas. You are encouraged to bring a real problem or dilemma from your own experience to use in the classroom exercises.

During the course you will

  • look at the difference between making a decision and finding a solution
  • discuss the TOC tools that are used in the process from identifying a problem to finding a solution
  • work through different examples of Clouds
  • discuss in detail the process of raising assumptions – logical reasoning justifying specific behaviour
  • learn what types of statements should not be accepted as assumptions
  • learn and apply the rules for checking the validity of the raised assumptions
  • learn and apply the rule for finding assumptions that have a very high chance to bring to the direction of solution
  • look into the typical mistakes made in working with Undesirable Effects and how to use them in constructing Clouds
  • learn the technique of building Negative Branches
  • see the significance of assumptions in the logical connection “If…then…”
