 Spring Classes 2019

Smartphone & Tablet (Androids) - Mondays: 9:30 – 11:30 AM, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, Cost $40

Class Description:  During this 4-week Android Smart Phone & Tablet class you will learn the basic features of your Smartphone & Tablet with emphasis on communicating with family & friends using your Android devices. We will cover email, texting, Skype, taking & sharing photos and videos. The class will cover the features of the built-in apps, downloading and updating apps from the app store, surfing the net, backing up your data & wireless operations. Note:  This class is NOT for iPhone or iPads.   See iPad & iPhone class below.

Prerequisite:  Desire to learn how to use your Android Smart Phone and/or Tablet

What to Bring to Class:  The classroom has wireless Internet connection and students are required to bring their Android devices for hands-on instruction. Instructor: Irv Rudderow

 

iPad & iPhone - Thursdays: 9:30 – 11:30 AM, 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, Cost $40

Class Description:  During this 4-week iPad & iPhone class you will learn the basic features of the iPad & iPhone with emphasis on communicating with family & friends using your Apple devices. We will cover email, texting, Facetime, Skype, and taking & sharing photos and videos.  The class will cover the features of the built-in apps, downloading and updating apps from the apps store, surfing the net, backing up your data to iCloud, and wireless operations.

Prerequisite:  Desire to learn how to use your iPhone and/or iPad

What to Bring to Class:  The classroom has wireless Internet connection and students are required to bring their iPhone or iPad for hands-on instruction.  You must bring your APPLE ID AND APPLE PASSWORD.

Google Maps - Monday: 1:00 – 3:00 PM,  3/11, Cost $10

Class Description:  Google Maps is a powerful tool that is available on your desktop, smart phone and/or tablets.  Learn how to use Google Maps for calculating a route from any location to where you want to go.  It can be used like a GPS.  Also discussed will be 2 other neat features - satellite view and street view.  Additionally you will be shown how find information about businesses including websites, phone numbers and hours of operation.

What to Bring to Class:  If you use a laptop, tablet or smartphone bring it.  If you use a mouse bring your mouse pad.

Family Tree Maker / Genealogy - Thursdays 9:30 - 11:30 AM: 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, 3/28, Cost: $40

Class Description:  The class will include an introduction & search of the on-line genealogy sites (Including Ancestry.com) and a short course on the Family Tree Maker software.  We will be working with ancestry.com and you will need to get a subscription after class starts. (Ancestry gives you a two week free trial). The last portion of the class will be dedicated to building & updating your Family Tree using Family Tree Maker and Ancestry.com.

What to Bring to Class:  - Laptop (either PC or Mac) to save your family tree on Family Tree Maker 2017 (a software package you can be given or you can buy the latest version online.) If you don’t bring your laptop you will need to bring in a flash drive to transfer the software & file to your home desktop.  If you don’t have a laptop temporary use of a laptop will be available but please let us know in advance. If you use a mouse bring your mouse pad. Note: You could do your research on-line with a Smartphone or tablet, but it is significantly harder and slower - without the benefits of a larger screen and the ability to easily print results and charts.  Family Tree Maker is recommended as it is the leading Genealogy software and is linked to Ancestry.com. The results online and on your computer will always be in sync. Prerequisite:  Basic working knowledge of your computer.

Using Quicken - Monday: 1:00 – 3:00 PM, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, Cost $40

Class Description:  This class will show how to work with Quicken, a personal finance management tool.  We will create the Quicken file as well as creating income, expense and Investment accounts; adding investments; budgeting; connecting to the web and downloading transactions and investment history; creating and printing reports.

What to Bring to Class:  If you have a laptop with Quicken on it, bring it.  If you use a mouse bring your mouse pad.

Prerequisite:  Basic working knowledge of your computer and connecting to the Internet.

Fix It Fridays- Every Friday from 1 - 3pm. Walk-ins welcome! Seniors seeking assistance in computer software and/or hardware problems should drop by. Donations are appreciated.  All staff are volunteers.
